LaGrange Academy hosted a luncheon for Veterans on Veterans Day.  Students at LaGrange Academy dressed in red, white, and blue in honor of Veterans’ Day and brought items to be sent to soldiers currently serving in our Armed Services in Iraq or Afghanistan.  A candle was lighted in honor of all these men and women currently serving overseas.

Veterans from all wars were welcomed by students from the National Honor Society and the AP History class.  The Kindergarten and First grade classes sang “God Bless America” and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag.  The 2nd and 3rd grade classes sang an Armed Forces Medley, and as each branch was sung, Veterans of that branch of service were asked to stand.

The main focus of the afternoon was for Veterans to share their experiences with the students.  Veterans brought memorabilia and pictures to heighten the experience.  This was the second year this event has been hosted by LaGrange Academy.  Last year the focus was solely on WWII Veterans.  Students so enjoyed their experiences with the Veterans that they wanted to again host the event.  A highpoint of the day was students thanking the Veterans for their service, assuring them that we will not forget, and committing their generation to continuing in the footsteps of these Veterans with patriotism, service, and sacrifice.
